altiris software key

I think a lot of people, like me, spend a lot of time try finding how to get those download:
  • Latest Symantec workspace Virtualization, SWV 6.1, that is advanced SVS version, is integrated with the Altiris client management suite CMS 7.  (Yes, it was also named "SVS PRO")
  • Notice 1: This package includes the "Wise Virtual Composer", and both x86+x64 versions.
  • Notice 2: This link currently also includes SWS (Streaming) and SWC (Corporate)
  • [please vote my post if you use it ;-]
Story: I was thinking only SVS 2.1 (Software Virtualization Solution) was integrated into the "Client Management Suite 7". But this is not the case and SWV 6.1 (Symantec Workspace Virtualization) must not be paid in addition.
Free home license: Both SVS 2.1 "light" version & SWV are still free personal use. I suggest you use now the latest SWV 6.4
(That is SWV 6.1 SP7 or following! Yes Symantec do this version naming - vote here also to ask Symantec stop this curious).
CMS 7.1 SP2 MP1, includes sp7 mp1, Got now a better integration then 7.0, but can do better:
  • 1st: NOT UP TO DATE (why no auto-update like patch solution... or a patch from SIM, as it is design for?)
If you want latest version: you have to download and import the MSI file into your CMS7 Software components.
  • 2nd: Valid detection rules, not integrated  (issue should solved with 1st)
    785f9a4d-d113-43b3-aa1d-77ad777f0a2f     is 6.4.1266 x64
    f0903be8-e528-405d-8ae5-2a4c7048827a   is 6.4.1266 x86
    dcc5b9e2-d918-4b9d-93ff-062d8ab987ee    is 6.4.1346 x64
The good news, Symantec stop using the same MSI Product code all builds: So you do not need any more to add a detection "rule" from "uninstall" Windows registry. The "BAD": under the condition you are able to extract the MSI: because with the EXE install package, when import into ALTIRIS7, you do not get any MSI code, or any repair/remove command line autobuild... See 4th!
  • 3rd: MUST CREATE Your agent Policy (issue should solved with 1st)
You need to create your own policy; because integrated ones . => If your purely replace existing to reuse provided default policies: and replace the physical package... I am afraid later update failure, (I see the case with the MP1/sp2 CMS)
  • 4th: EXE package instead of MSI (issue mitigated if 1st solved)
6.3 (and laters) are only EXE file (you can not unzip), so you need to start the EXE, extract from the temp directory (%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\SYMANTEC\SEV) the MSI File before exiting the EXE... Why provide an EXE instead of MSI (vote here!)
  • 5th: No detection rules for XPF [That is a MUST]
There is no "detection rule" tool for SWV packages, you should be able to check if installed, activated, etc... That is not the case, must script.
Happy to remove the 6th: auto-generate import/activation commands: I must say thanks for the supported XPF now, previously only VSA file were supported for package import process into CMS 7.1, it works now with XPF files :)
Also thanks for the Policies integration: install/uninstall/upgrade, now available inside the console, no need top build your own, except you update latest.

SVS 2.1 Officials: and probably obsolete version should not use any more...

Version 2.1 license fixed keys for CMS and Free home usage:
  • That is providing currently a fixed serial for all home user is: b6c5a-wiy8u-e89de-c3cv4  ;-)
  • For CMS7 customers, the fixed serial for installing SVS is: byv5a-wkyrb-k99w6-8db04
I suppose those links will be oboslete in a future, because "altiris.com" instead of "symantec.com". So please, I suggest you subscribe this post & as soon as you find a "new" good download area, just add in there or message me! (So I can correct this post ;-)

Installing tricks:
EXE install
  • Yes, of course, was too much simple to keep it as a MSI ! So now place to an EXE... You can probably track the temp place the EXE extract the MSI to redo as a MSI (Check the folder "C:\ProgramData\Symantec\SEV" sub temp folder to see the extracted package (msi admin) when you run the exe)
  • else, the silent option for the EXE is "/s" :)
    Symantec_Workspace_Virtualization_x64.exe /s SWV.ADDLOCAL=Altiris_NS
(Manual writed need to provide a SWV.PRODUCT_KEY=<code> is mandatory => not true, also Reboot really suppress not necessary)
  • Be aware the EXE version install the VCREDIRECT 2008 (Visual C++ Runtime v9) if missing, not sure the MSI does.
Be care:
  • MSI code for SVS are the same number for all SVS 2.1 revisions {7D8DBB7C-1C55-4950-A107-043C164F379A},
so the CMS7 default package import is not giving sufficient "detection rule" to distinguish correct versions. :-(
  • SVS 2.1 installer does not detect conflict previous install of a SWV 6.1 version: you will get bad surprise (I do this by accident, this remove all my layers, not reset: remove them from manage, but keep files fsldr on disk. Upgrade from 2.1 to 6.1 seems ok, but I do not try with latest).
  • NS6/SMP7/CMS: For integrating SVS or SWV agent install with an existing NS Altiris agent (either version 6 or version 7), just add "ALTIRIS_NS=1" property parameter: eg.
msiexec /qb /i svsagent.msi PRODUCT_KEY=b6c5a-wiy8u-e89de-c3cv4 ALTIRIS_NS=1

Security thinking:
Hey, before clicking a link & download, just verify the source of your download, it is always a risk to install an application you don't verify the source.
I hear you: "Hey Pascal, stop bearing us with your recommendations, of course we know that, we are PRO IT!"
OK
, I know you are, and most of you were absolutly never using a web navigator with local admin right from XP client? No? This was giving any corrupted web page the right to trojen your own PC, (Only if not correctly protected latest Norton or SEP, of course ;-),
Oh, you are using IE8/9/10 under Win7, with a warning prompt before, that is much better: Did you read or verify, before answering Yes ??? cheeky
If you are: You should try this: http://svsdownload.com/download.php?filename=archives/Internet%20Explorer.vsa (see on svsdownload.com/) Just simple & genial, you capture anything from web IE session on a virtual layer, you can explore, or just delete ! Enjoy ;-)
