Procedure to generate a kernel or a complete memory dump file in Windows Server:

Steps  to Enable Memory Dump & Generate NMI to System using ILO

  • Click Start, click Run, type Regedit, and then click OK.1
  • Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl

  • Steps to be followed
    1. We need to enable the Complete memory dump option first:
    Set the   CrashDumpEnabled registry entry to 1  (Hexadecimal value)3.png
    2. Type NMICrashDump, and then press ENTER.    Right-click NMICrashDump, and then click Modify.
  • In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  • Right-click CrashControl, point to New, and then click DWORD Value 324
3. Edit the Dumpfile key and give the value as C:\memory.dmp

4. Right-click CrashControl, point to New, and then click string Value.
Type DedicatedDumpFile, and then press ENTER.
Right-click DedicatedDumpFile, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type D:\dedicateddumpfile.sys, and then click OK.

Go to System Properties and check Automatically Manage paging file size option:

Select Automatically Restart Option under startup and recovery:

Reboot the server and press F9 to disable ASR

Go to BIOS under Server Availability Select ASR and Choose Disabled
Press F10 two times to confirm the changes and Server will reboot

Steps to Generate NMI logs when Server gets HUNG
When server will hang please login through ILO IP
On the left pane click on Diagnostics and then click on Generate NMI to system

Memory Dump will be created under D:\memory.dmp and the server will automatically restart.
Login to the server and check below locations if Memory dump and LOGNAME file is created
under  folder path :- “D:\memory.dmp  & C:\PerfLogs\Admin\”
Zip the memory.dmp file and upload both files to workspace.
